Fathers Heart

Mathew 25:40…. Whatever you did for the least of My brothers and sisters, you did for Me.

On the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, members of our congregation cook a meal to take to the Father’s Heart Street Ministry. Each member cooks one part of the meal and then we meet at the Father’s Heart facility to serve lunch to the homeless people who turn to Father’s Heart for help. It has been a joy to meet and serve these people, while it is also a reminder of the blessings in our own lives.

This is a very fulfilling mission for our church and especially for those of us who cook and serve the food. Even our youth of all ages have taken part in this mission. The youngest members have done so by donating their pennies to the “Pennies For Jesus” jar during Children’s Time. They donated over $175 this year and chose to dedicate the money to Father’s Heart. The older youth have both prepared meals and served them when they have had vacation from school. We have also had a sock drive; providing warm socks for men and women during the cold, wet, winter months. We also donate used clothing and other items to Father’s Heart. We keep #10-sized cans of vegetables and fruit on hand at the church so that if a congregation member would like to participate but cannot afford to buy food in large quantities, they can feel free to take what is needed that week to serve at Father’s Heart.

Our connection with the Father’s Heart Mission has led us to become much more aware of the homeless people in our area. Because of this, our congregation occasionally brings food to be combined into gallon-sized Ziploc bags, along with plastic utensils, a napkin, and a business card from Father’s Heart. Many of us then take one or two of those bags to keep in our cars. When we come upon someone in need it is very rewarding to be able to look them in the eye and give them a meal.
